This application is designed to develop speaking skills. It contains a collection of reverse translation exercises grouped by topics.
Installation on Devices
You can install this application as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on your device for easy access and offline functionality. Below are the details about installation on various platforms and browsers.
Supported Browsers
The ability to install a PWA is supported on the following browsers:
- Google Chrome (Desktop and Mobile)
- Microsoft Edge (Desktop and Mobile)
- Firefox (Desktop and Mobile, with limitations on mobile - no direct install button)
- Safari (iOS and macOS)
- Opera (Desktop and Mobile)
On these browsers, you'll typically see an "Install" or "Add to Home Screen" prompt when the application meets PWA installation criteria.
Browsers with Limitations
Some browsers may have limitations or not support PWA installation at all:
- Firefox on iOS does not support direct PWA installation.
- Safari on macOS allows installing PWAs, but lacks some features (e.g., no push notifications or background sync).
- Internet Explorer does not support PWAs at all.
Installation on Android
On Android devices, you can install the PWA directly from browsers like Google Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Firefox. When visiting the application, you should see an "Add to Home Screen" or "Install" prompt, usually displayed in the browser's menu or automatically at the bottom of the screen. Once installed, the app behaves like a native application, with its own icon and access through the app drawer.
Installation on iOS (iPhone/iPad)
On iOS devices (iPhone and iPad), PWA installation is supported through the Safari browser. Here's how to install the app:
- Open the app in Safari.
- Tap the "Share" button (the square icon with an upward arrow).
- Select "Add to Home Screen" from the list of options.
- Confirm the app name and tap "Add".
After installation, the app appears on the home screen and works like a native app. However, iOS has some limitations for PWAs:
- No support for push notifications.
- No background sync.
- Limited storage space compared to Android.
Despite these limitations, the PWA will still function offline, giving you access to previously cached exercises and features.
Topic and Exercise Selection
You can select a topic and an exercise using the dropdown lists. This allows you to focus on specific areas of interest and practice relevant phrases and sentences.
Interactive Exercise
Each exercise allows you to listen to and translate phrases and sentences by single or double-clicking/tapping on the text. This interactive approach helps reinforce learning and improve pronunciation.
Voice Recording for Pronunciation Control
To practice your pronunciation, the application provides a voice recording feature. To record your voice, press and hold the left mouse button (or press and hold with your finger on touchscreens) over the exercise text screen. While holding, the app will record your voice, and when you release the button or lift your finger, it will automatically play back your recording. This allows you to immediately hear your pronunciation and compare it to the model pronunciation in the exercise.
Grammar Notes
Below the exercise, you will find a grammar note. This provides additional context and explanations to help you understand the grammar rules applied in the exercise.
Navigation Panel
Above the exercise, there is a button panel for navigating between exercises and starting a training session. The training session is a translation exercise that opens in a separate screen.
Training Session
The training session screen includes a slider at the top to adjust the duration of pauses between phrases. This allows you to control the pace of your practice.
At the bottom of the screen, there are buttons to close the training, pause it, and perform the training step-by-step manually with arbitrary pauses. If the training is paused, you can click on the displayed phrases and sentences to listen to them again. You can also use swipe gestures to move to the next step or go back to the previous one.
